The Fenix PD35 V2.0 is an upgraded version of the earlier Fenix PD35 flashlight. It offers a maximum output of 1,000 lumens, a 250-meter beam distance, and five brightness levels plus strobe.

Although the PD35 V2.0 has since been discontinued by Fenix Lighting USA, it remains a capable flashlight for existing owners. If you’re considering purchasing one in 2026, it’s worth comparing it with the newer PD35 V3.0 before making your decision.

Producing a maximum of 1,000 lumens, the PD35 V2.0 is noticeably brighter than the original 550-lumen Fenix PD25. Its 250-meter rated beam distance also gives it more reach for outdoor work.

What makes this flashlight particularly useful is its range of brightness settings. You don’t always need full power. Switching to a lower setting can make the flashlight more comfortable for close-up tasks while extending battery runtime.

Fenix PD35 V2.0 Review: Features and Performance

1. Durable Construction

If you regularly take part in outdoor activities, you need a flashlight that can withstand everyday wear. That’s one of the strongest features of the Fenix PD35 V2.0.

The flashlight is built from high-strength aluminum with a premium HAIII hard-anodized finish. This helps protect the body against scratches, corrosion, and normal handling damage.

It also has a toughened ultra-clear glass lens with an anti-reflective coating. The lens protects the LED assembly while allowing efficient light transmission.

The PD35 V2.0 feels sturdy without being unnecessarily bulky. Its compact construction makes it suitable for carrying in a backpack, on a belt, or in a jacket pocket.

However, even a strongly built flashlight can be damaged by repeated drops or improper handling. Taking care of the lens, threads, and battery compartment will help extend its useful life.

2. Excellent 1,000-Lumen Brightness

One of the main reasons to choose the Fenix PD35 V2.0 is its brightness. It uses a Cree XP-L HI V3 LED with a rated lifespan of approximately 50,000 hours.

At its highest output, it produces 1,000 lumens. That is enough for many tasks, including checking a dark backyard, illuminating a trail, or working in an area without proper lighting.

The maximum rated beam distance is 250 meters, or around 820 feet. This gives the flashlight useful reach without requiring a much larger body.

Still, beam distance ratings should be understood correctly. A 250-meter rating does not mean every object at that distance will appear brightly illuminated. Actual visibility depends on weather, background light, and the object being viewed.

For anyone who needs a more powerful light, our high-lumen flashlight guide covers other options.

3. Five Brightness Levels and Strobe Mode

What I like about the PD35 V2.0 is that it offers several brightness settings rather than forcing you to use one output level for every task.

For reading a map or checking something inside a tent, Eco or Low is usually enough. Medium works well for general activities, while High and Turbo provide more light when you need better visibility.

Mode Brightness Published Runtime
Eco 3 lumens 430 hours
Low 50 lumens 29 hours 30 minutes
Medium 150 lumens 12 hours 25 minutes
High 350 lumens 5 hours 10 minutes
Turbo 1,000 lumens 2 hours 50 minutes
Strobe 1,000 lumens Not separately specified

These are published performance figures using the manufacturer’s test conditions. Actual runtime varies with battery capacity, temperature, and output regulation.

Also, the published Turbo runtime doesn’t mean the flashlight will remain at a constant 1,000 lumens throughout the entire period. Output may decrease automatically as the flashlight heats up or battery voltage changes.

The strobe mode produces a rapidly flashing beam that may help attract attention in an emergency. Avoid directing it into someone’s eyes.

4. Convenient Battery Options

The Fenix PD35 V2.0 can run on one compatible rechargeable 18650 Li-ion battery or two 3V CR123A lithium batteries.

This is convenient because you can choose between rechargeable power and disposable backup batteries.

An 18650 battery is practical if you use the flashlight regularly. You can recharge it with a compatible external charger instead of constantly buying replacement batteries.

CR123A batteries are useful as backups, particularly for occasional outdoor trips or emergency storage.

One important detail: The Fenix PD35 V2.0 does not have a built-in Micro-USB charging port. You need to remove the 18650 battery for charging unless you’re using a compatible battery with its own charging port.

The flashlight also requires a compatible button-top 18650 battery. Flat-top 18650 batteries are not supported.

Never recharge disposable CR123A batteries or mix old and new cells.

5. Battery Level Indicator

Another useful feature is the battery level indicator built into the metal side switch.

When you turn on the flashlight using a compatible 18650 rechargeable battery, the indicator briefly displays the battery condition.

  • Solid green: Battery has a high charge level.
  • Flashing green: Battery has sufficient remaining power.
  • Solid red: Battery level is low.
  • Flashing red: Battery is critically low and should be recharged.

The indicator provides an approximate battery status rather than an exact percentage reading.

Keep in mind that this feature does not work when the flashlight is powered by two disposable CR123A batteries.

If you regularly use rechargeable batteries, you may also want to read our guide to 18650-powered flashlights.

6. IP68 Weather Protection

Besides being sturdy, the PD35 V2.0 offers strong protection against dust and water.

Its IP68 rating means the flashlight is dust-tight and rated for immersion in water up to 2 meters under the manufacturer’s specified conditions.

This makes it suitable for rain, snow, and wet outdoor environments. However, it is not intended to replace a dedicated diving flashlight.

Before exposing the light to water, ensure that the tail cap, head, and O-ring seals are properly fitted.

The flashlight is also rated for 1-meter impact resistance, helping it withstand ordinary accidental drops.

7. User-Friendly Dual-Switch Design

A powerful tactical flashlight should be easy to operate, even in the dark.

The good news is that the Fenix PD35 V2.0 has a straightforward control system. The rear tactical switch turns the light on or off and supports momentary activation.

The metal side switch allows you to cycle through the five regular brightness settings and access strobe.

This arrangement makes it easy to change the output without constantly turning the flashlight off.

The textured aluminum body provides a comfortable grip, while the anti-roll design helps prevent the flashlight from rolling away on a relatively flat surface.

These may be small details, but they make the PD35 V2.0 easier to use during camping, maintenance work, or everyday activities.

8. Additional Protection Features

The PD35 V2.0 also includes several features designed to protect the flashlight and improve performance.

  • Reverse polarity protection: Helps prevent electrical damage if a battery is accidentally inserted incorrectly.
  • Low-voltage warning: Alerts users when a compatible rechargeable battery is running low.
  • Temperature protection: Regulates output when the flashlight becomes too hot.
  • Digitally regulated output: Helps maintain stable performance as battery voltage changes.
  • Intelligent memory: Recalls the last regular brightness setting when the flashlight is turned back on.

These features are particularly useful if you rely on your flashlight frequently. However, you should still use approved batteries and follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions.

Fenix PD35 V2.0 vs. PD35 V3.0: What’s New?

Because the PD35 V2.0 is discontinued, buyers should also consider the newer PD35 V3.0.

The newer version provides higher maximum brightness, a longer beam distance, and an included rechargeable battery with a charging port on the battery itself.

Feature PD35 V2.0 PD35 V3.0
Maximum output 1,000 lumens 1,700 lumens

Waterproof rating IP68 IP68
Length 138 mm 134 mm
Weight without battery 88 grams Approximately 84 grams
Maximum published runtime 430 hours 300 hours

The PD35 V3.0 is a better fit for buyers who want greater output and beam reach in a similar-sized body.

However, if you already own a PD35 V2.0 and its brightness meets your needs, there is no immediate reason to replace it.

Charging clarification: The PD35 V3.0 does not have a USB-C port built directly into the flashlight body. Its supplied rechargeable battery includes a USB charging port.

How to Maintain Your Fenix PD35 V2.0

A little maintenance can make a big difference in the long-term performance of your flashlight.

  • Keep battery contacts clean and dry.
  • Use only compatible 18650 or CR123A batteries.
  • Inspect the O-ring seals for signs of wear.
  • Make sure the tail cap is properly tightened before exposure to water.
  • Remove batteries when storing the flashlight for a long time.
  • Keep the lens free from dirt and scratches.
  • Avoid leaving the light operating in Turbo inside a closed bag or pocket.
  • Contact an authorized service provider for persistent electrical problems.

If the flashlight flickers or stops working, try a known-good compatible battery first. Dirty contacts and loose connections can also cause intermittent operation.

Do not disassemble the sealed LED head, as this can damage the flashlight and affect warranty coverage.

Is the Fenix PD35 V2.0 Still Worth Buying in 2026?

The Fenix PD35 V2.0 remains a dependable flashlight with enough brightness for many common activities.

Its 1,000-lumen output, 250-meter beam distance, and durable construction are still useful for camping, hiking, household emergencies, and professional work.

However, the model has been discontinued, so finding a new unit from a reliable retailer may be difficult.

If you already own the PD35 V2.0, it’s worth keeping as long as it continues working properly. The battery flexibility, comfortable grip, and straightforward controls remain practical.

For someone buying a new flashlight in 2026, though, I would also compare the newer PD35 V3.0 and other current everyday carry flashlight options.

A newer model may offer better brightness, charging convenience, and long-term availability of compatible accessories.

Final Verdict: Fenix PD35 V2.0 Review

After looking at its features, the Fenix PD35 V2.0 is clearly a capable multipurpose flashlight. It works well for outdoor activities, maintenance tasks, security work, and emergency lighting.

Its compact design makes it easy to carry, while the durable aluminum body helps it handle ordinary wear. The dual-switch system is simple to use, and the five brightness levels give you enough flexibility for different lighting situations.

I particularly like the combination of its 1,000-lumen Turbo mode and low-powered Eco setting. You can use it for short periods of bright illumination or keep it running much longer when only a little light is needed.

There are some drawbacks. The PD35 V2.0 doesn’t have built-in charging, and the newer PD35 V3.0 offers considerably higher maximum output. The older model is also discontinued.

Overall, the Fenix PD35 V2.0 remains a solid flashlight for existing owners. If you’re purchasing a new flashlight, compare the current Fenix lineup before deciding whether an older PD35 V2.0 is worth the asking price.

Frequently Asked Questions

1 thought on “Fenix PD35 V2.0 Review 2026 [With 2X LumenTac Batteries]”

  1. I bought several PD35s and all worked fine. having sat on my dresser the next time I tried it it didn’t work. batteries were fine and I even replaced them to be sure it wasn’t the batteries. Not sure if its the end switch or the intensity switch but one or both gave out. My concern is if one switch gave out will all other flashlight switches suffer the same fate. Years ago bought 6 6-volt flashlights and once turned on the switches broke due to wrong temper on the switch steel.
